JESSAMINE – "Self-titled" (Album)
Following the 2010 single release of "Petals & Razors", Jessamine bored and lonely with playing solo, developed the line-up to include three long term friends. With the introduction of Ben Sherwood on bass, Damien Foxton on guitar and Nerida Wu on drums, the band worked hard on creating new material, maintaining an eclectic and melodic set that ranges from slowcore, indie pop and alternative rock; Jess's feet firmly ensconced in her rock "past" as guitarist in Sydney's ARIA nominated Nitocris. Loaded with infectious pop songs, the album treads a path of musical diversity. The softer moments feature acidic melodies laced with pretty harmonies as evidenced on the eery "Who's Laughing?' and the lullaby-like sweetness of "See-saw". However, Jessamine's love of volume is also apparent in the 100-miles-per-hour opener "1000 Liars" and "Wires", and the Throwing Muses-esque "Brand New Car" and "Simple Ways"; both powerful amped-up assaults.
LAURA IMBRUGLIA – "The Lighter Side Of…" (Album)
Laura Imbruglia. You’ve probably seen the name around. Heard a song or two on the radio. You may have even seen her live. Laura’s been kicking around the Australian music scene for nigh on 10 years now, has toured countless times including Europe twice. She’s played with The Eels, Tegan and Sara, New Pornographers, Fiery Furnaces, Violent Femmes, Beth Orton, Sarah Blasko and many more. Laura’s debut e.p. “It Makes A Crunchy Noise” (2003) introduced the world to her unusual sense of humour and awkward confidence. She followed it with her self-titled album in 2006, which featured “Looking For A Rabbit” and “Tear Ducts”. Enjoying wonderful reception in Australia and abroad, this album took Laura on 2 extensive European tours where she wowed people in Germany, Austria, UK, Switzerland & Denmark! Her follow-up album, sarcastically titled “The Lighter Side Of…” (Released April 2010), is a meeting of the 2 sides of Laura- The smart-arse and the angry heartbreak-ee. Produced by Nick Huggins (Whitley, Kid Sam) and Laura herself. This album really ups Laura’s ante.
PAULY - WHEN IT ALL FALLS APART (AND IT WILL) - I WANNA BE YOUR GIRLFRIEND
SIANNA LEE – "Phoenix Propeller" (Album)
Sianna started out like a lot of other teenagers, shutting herself up in her bedroom with a pen, paper and a beaten up, nylon string guitar. She dreamed of being angry like Adalita, dark and powerful like PJ whilst incorporating what she had learned from her favourite 80’s childhood albums ‘The Hurting’ by Tears for Fears and ‘The Unforgettable Fire’ by U2., From a semi-rural town on the Mornington Peninsula, she moved to Melbourne to form the band that would be eventually named ‘Love Outside Andromeda’. The band released two EPs and achieved national airplay and toured relentlessly before collapsing in late 2006. Sianna re-emerged in 2010 with a self-funded and self-produced, distinctive & accomplished debut solo album: ‘Phoenix Propeller’., In her own words: “’Phoenix Propeller’ documents the emotional fall out of band gone wrong, love gone wrong and the decision to not become a single mother at the age of 26. It is not a playful or light-hearted attempt at a first solo record”.
MOTHERS & DAUGHTERS – YOU ARE THE SEA – DARK ENOUGH TO SEE THE STARS
BLACKIE – "Break Bread With The Mono Brows" (Album)
Playing music since falling in love with punk rock at the end of 1979, Blackie has been a founding member of long time Ozzie punks The Hard-Ons. Formed when they were still in school, they have become one of this countries longest (and best!!) underground acts. If that aint enough, Blackie is also a member of experimental punk/psych act Nunchukka Superfly… bending genre's and basically doing whatever they feel like in the pursuit of art! But needing an outlet for the more mellow stuff, Blackie has now also gone solo… playing shows in acoustic mode is one of the last challenges for this extreme (and egotistical) musician… anyway blah blah blah, just check it out and don't spare the bread!!
